CHARACTER APPLICATION
Feb. 5th, 2012 12:53 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
If you want to apply for a character at Digital Dive, simply take one of the forms below and reply to this post.
Applications will now be judged on a rotation cycle. Applications can be submitted throughout the entire month, but they will only be judged, rejected, or sent back for revision in the last two weeks of any calendar month.
New to Digital Dive, you can now use the Dive Tests Network to act in place of the RP Sample or D-Comm Network Post. You can only use it for one, however! Further details for how this works can be found here.
Before you apply, there are a few points we'd like to make known:
If you wish to app a character from a movie, video game, or other work released in individual (read, not regular), we'd like to ask that you wait for 30 days out of consideration for spoilers.
Most applications are judged on a two strikes your out policy, with applicants being given one chance to correct aspects of an app that the moderators feel are lacking or in error. However, if the majority of the application has numerous faults, the moderators reserve the right to reject an app wholesale. In the case of a rejected application, you must wait a full month before applying or reserving for them again, and in that time, the character you have applied for is still considered up for grabs.
Because all situations and canons are different, the moderators reserve the rights to question an application's merit and communicate with the applicant about the matter. This can range from how long the canon has been running, the point in which the character is being applied for, concerns of potential canon-mates, and whatever other necessary situations may arise.
We've provided explanations for each section, so please read over them before you apply!
Name and personal journal: List the name you'd like to be called along with your personal journal, if you have one.
Contact: List the methods by which you can be contacted here, including email, instant messagers, or anything else. We must have some means of getting hold of you outside Dreamwidth itself.
Player's Age: Please list your personal age. We ask presently that players be over the age of 16.
Character/Canon: List the character's name and the canon they originate from. If your character is an original creation, regardless of origin, please indicate this.
Character Type: Is your character a main character, a secondary character, a background character, or an OC?
Tamer Class: Please specify whether you are applying for a Soul Tamer, Matrix Tamer, Spirit Tamer, Xros Tamer, or a Digimon on its own. If you are uncertain of which to select, refer to the respective write-ups on Tamer classes.
Furthermore, if you are applying for a Spirit OR Xros Tamer, we would like you to explain why you believe it would fit your character.
Understand that we can and will, if necessary, deny or ask you change your Tamer Class if it is deemed ill-fitting of the character. This does not count as a strike towards rejection, however, except under circumstances when we determine the Class to be ill-fitting and the applicant doesn't comply.
If you don't understand the Class System well and are uncertain of what to pick, you can either ask a moderator, or simply choose "Soul Tamer" as the default option as it is the easiest to manage. You can always change you Class later!
Character appearance: Post an image of your character's appearance, or post a description if you don't have one.
Character age: List your character's age.
Digimon partner(s)/Spirit/Xros Army: If you are applying for a Soul or Matrix Tamer, please list the digimon you have selected for your partner. This digimon must be at the Child level or lower. You need not determine the rest of its evolution line at this time, and even if you do, you may change it at any time provided you haven't already depicted it as evolving into something else. If your Digimon is a fan creation, please indicate this.
If you are applying for a Spirit Tamer, simply state whether you have chosen the Spirit of Fire, Light, Wind, Ice, Thunder, Steel, Water, Wood, Earth, Darkness, or Corrupted Darkness.
If you are applying for a Xros Tamer, due to the fact that these require more information, we require you to list your army's main partner, their super evolution, and the remaining members of their army.
If you are applying for a character who is a Digimon, feel free to leave this blank. However, if said Digimon is an original creation, please indicate this. We are also not accepting applications for Digimon characters who are the Ultimate/Mega level that do not originate from an existing canon - simply put, you would be allowed to apply for BlackWarGreymon from the Digimon Adventure 02 anime, but not an original character who is a BlackWarGreymon.
In general, if you have trouble coming up with a Digimon Partner, you can feel free to ask the community over AIM, the moderators, or refer to sites such as the Digital Monster Almanac or Wikimon.
Xros Ups: If you are applying for a Xros Tamer, we need to know the Xros Ups your Tamer will be able to form from your Primary Partner, what they're called, and what they can do, including attacks and any other special abilities. Note, that this section is also important for determining you have a grasp of the Digi-Xros concept, so this is where you will show that knowledge. This section is not on the app for non-Xros Tamers.
Character history: Describe your character's history. If you're going to go into great, extensive detail, you won't be denied, but note that we do not need a novel written. Quality comes before quantity, and we simply want to know you understand and grasp the canon you are apping from, as well as give us context so we can better understand the following sections. So, please write it out in a concise, but informative manner.
Note however, that for original characters we will hold this section up to much higher standards. An original character can be rejected based on factors ranging from background quality or just seeming to be a poorly conceived character.
Character personality: Describe your character's personality in an informative, but concise, manner. This is one of the most important aspects of the application, to really show you understand the character and where they might be coming from. The raised standards for original characters also applies here.
Digimon partner personality: Describe your Digimon's personality in an informative, but concise manner. Your Digimon are characters too, and just as important as their Tamer. If you are applying for a Xros Tamer or a Tamer with multiple partners, you must list personality for ALL Digimon. Each one will be held up to the same standards as a single partner. If you are apping a Spirit Tamer, you can skip or remove this section.
Character abilities: Describe your character's abilities. Keep in mind that all offensive powers must be scaled down to the Adult level. Most powers that rely on external sources outside the Digital World generally won't function, though there can be the occasional exception depending on how it's described. Keep in mind this is also an important part of determining whether or not the Tamer Class you have selected for your character is right for them.
Please focus on the character's primary, distinct abilities. If the character has a multitude of attacks or spells, free to link to a wiki or other listing that covers said arsenal of powers, but this cannot substitute for the entire ability write-up.
If your character's abilities exceed that which is deemed fair towards the role play in general, you may be asked to tone them down.
On another note, Dive does consider allowing characters to arrive with piloted mecha. This is subject to certain scrutiny, of course, and is judged in comparison to the character's personal abilities outside of the suit and how much their character revolves around the use of said machine.
Sample RP: Please give us a third person role-play sample, depicting your character and their partner(s) interacting. Both sample sections are very important to show your character's voice, and your ability to write your character from a prose perspective, as this will make up a large potential chunk of your role playing in the Logs community.
Sample D-Comm Network Post: Please give us a role play sample from the perspective of posting from the D-Comm Network. It is, effectively, like posting in an online journal or social networking site. Again, we are trying to get a feel for your character's voice.
This is the app for Soul, Spirit, and Matrix Tamers, as well as standalone digimon characters.
This is the app for Xros Tamers:
Banned Digimon partners:
Keep in mind that some digimon are not allowed as digimon partners or components in an evolution line. These digimon are as follows:
Lucemon (all forms)
Arkadimon (all forms)
Apocalymon
Death-X-mon
Ogudamon
Omegamon
Susanoomon
Chaosmon
UltimateChaosmon
Millenniummon
Moon=Millenniumon
ZeedMillenniumon
Gizmon (all forms)
DarknessBagramon
Quartzmon
In addition, with a few notable exceptions, most "Mode Changes" are not acceptable at this time, and you must select the basic version of those Ultimates. The exceptions are Imperialdramon Dragon Mode and Fighter Mode, both of which can be selected as indvidual Digimon, and Duftmon Leopard Mode, which is a component of Duftmon's abilities.

Iskandar app 5/6?
Date: 2012-04-15 06:36 am (UTC)Iskandar believes that it is a king's right to do whatever they want, but that in doing so they must go all out and live life more fully than anyone else, embodying all extremes: good, evil, happiness, anger, greed, and all others. When others see the king as a grander figure than anyone else, they will be inspired to become more like him, and will give their loyalty and wish to fulfill his wishes because they truly admire him. If their only reason for loyalty is because the king rules them, they will never be truly loyal; a king is not a true king if their followers can't admire them. Iskandar treasures his bonds with his followers and won't abuse that bond. He's become tired of others sacrificing themselves because of his whims though, and while he doesn't fear leading people into battle, since if they're following him they know what they're getting themselves into, he'll no longer charge into battles recklessly when there's another way to achieve the same results. He will make sure that his intelligence is sound before he risks lives, but if he does commit to battle he won't hold anything back.
Iskandar is always honest about his motives and opinions, regardless of if that offends others. He only makes open challenges, never attacking if a declaration of hostilities has not been made and never betraying an alliance. He is aware of the value of his reputation and won't use strategies or tactics that would damage it. He never panics, being supremely confident in himself and his beliefs, and if he sees that someone else is straying from the path he believes is right, he will expend great effort to save them from themselves and bring them to his side. Even if he disagrees with an enemy's beliefs he will still admire their courage and honor and make every attempt at avoiding bloodshed, but if there is no avoiding battle he will relish the thrill of it.
Iskandar refuses to have regrets. No matter how bad an outcome is, he accepts that it is the result of the decisions that he thought were the best at the time. He can be unhappy with an outcome, but he knows he can't change it, nor would he if given the chance, as that would be an insult to those who sacrificed for him. That being said, it pained him greatly when he learned that the world was round, as that meant that his dream of leaving footprints on the shore of Oceanus, the endless sea at the eastern edge of the world, was an impossibility that so many of his followers had needlessly sacrificed themselves for. That ultimately pointless dream and his short life are the two things that he is closest to having any sort of regrets for, even if he would never allow himself to have them. He still holds on to that dream of seeing Oceanus though, while being aware that it's foolish to do so and accepting that it can never be.
Digimon partner personality:
Shoutmon: The most obvious thing about Shoutmon is how loud he is. Even more so than most Shoutmon, he's never quiet; his voice ranges from "raised" to "yelling", when he's not talking he'll often whistle or hum, and failing that he'll be drumming his fingers, tapping his foot, or doing something that results in noise. Fortunately his voice isn't annoying in and of itself, only the volume that it's constantly at. He's a good singer, loving rock and metal music, along with the occasional other (usually loud) song, and normally makes his living as a singer.
Outwardly, Shoutmon is friendly, outgoing, optimistic, confident, and passionate about his music. He constantly tries to be the center of attention and becomes uncomfortable and upset when he's not. If he's ignored for too long he'll get snippy and progress to unflattering nicknames and mild insults, although he can usually hold himself back from anything that he thinks would really hurt people. He does care about others, but has a terrible habit of jumping into situations without regard for the consequences and forgetting about the feelings and safety of others, leading to hurt feelings and awkward apologies afterward. This applies to fights, too, which causes problems of its own, as he is only a middling fighter, with a tendency to focus on one opponent and forget about anyone else who might be after him. Inwardly though, Shoutmon has an extreme fear of being ignored and alone. The self-confidence he usually projects is faked, as he doesn't believe that he's really as good of a performer as people say he is. Neither does he believe that he's a good person, since he's aware that he's an attention-whore, but is too scared of the alternative to do anything about it.
When he was younger, he spent an unusually long time at Baby 2 without evolving, watching everyone else who had hatched around the same time as him evolve to Child and leave, and then watching later arrivals also evolve past him. As time went by and he didn't evolve, a rumor went around that spending too much time near him would delay a Digimon's evolution, causing the people around him to avoid and ignore him no matter what he did. He spent most of that solitude listening to music and singing along. He finally evolved the day that Yggdrasil updated the Digital World with new species of Digimon, and flush with the excitement of finally evolving and being able to leave his old life behind, encountered Tamers in person for the first time. The attention they gave him simply for being a new species of Digimon was exciting after being ignored for so long, and he craved more of it. He eventually met up with a group of other Digimon who shared his love of music and they formed a band with him as their lead singer. When he's performing he can easily hold the audience's attention, but it's also the only time that he's his true self, and the only time he'll let someone else (specifically, the other members of the band, and no one else) take the spotlight away from him.
Leomon: Leomon is normally serious and remains calm in the face of danger. He never completely trusts people's motives and assumes that every situation will go wrong sooner or later. In his opinion, things that seem too good to be true are. He's blunt and pragmatic, and while he prefers to win in an honest one-on-one fight, he'll use cheap tricks if it's the only way to win. He's a skilled fighter with good spatial awareness, but has little pride in his abilities and treats fighting as a stress-relieving hobby that can sometimes be put to practical use. His travels have given him street smarts and practical knowledge about a wide variety of topics, but the only thing he could be considered an expert in is fighting, as he's never seen a reason to learn much about any one topic. He doesn't care whether he's on his own or with others, but he prefers quiet after growing up with parents who constantly talked to him and never gave him a moment's peace when they were nearby.
Leomon's parents were both highly skilled artisans who wanted a child to inherit the "family business" and had him for that reason. Whether Leomon inherited their talent is unknown even to him, as he never had any interest in it and put no effort into improving. He resented them for not giving him a chance to figure out what he wanted to do with his life and just pushing him towards the path they wanted him to follow. He spent as much time as he could out of the house, where he took out his frustration by getting into fights, gradually getting better through experience. Eventually he'd had enough of his parents and one night he left town with a bag of the few things he cared about and the money from the shop's cashbox, never looking back. Since then he's wandered across much of the Digital World, fighting and taking odd jobs and mercenary work to support himself. He's gained skill and strength over the years, but he still doesn't have any long-term goals or any idea about what kind of life he wants; there's nothing that he's passionate about, and he just lives life day-to-day, not expecting much out of it.
Elephamon: Elephamon may move and speak slowly, but she's actually very intelligent, having a broad and deep knowledge base, though little experience applying that knowledge. She's cautious and thorough, thinking everything through before acting or coming to a decision. Few things other than being put in direct danger can bypass this, so attempting to rush her is largely futile - doing so is more likely to make her jittery than be helpful. Sudden change in general is distressing for her, though if she's forewarned she can deal with it. Despite her size and obvious strength, she doesn't like fighting and tries to intimidate her way out of fights if at all possible. If forced to stand and fight she isn't very good at it, as her reaction time is low and she has to rely on her endurance and ability to take a lot of hits without going down.
Elephamon showed her intelligence early, but not any understanding of or desire for normal social contact and inadvertently pushed others away. She has occasionally had people who she could speak with on the same level, but she's never had anyone that she would call a friend. She doesn't feel lonely per se, but she's aware that something is missing in her life, only she doesn't know what. She can come across as distant and uncaring, but this isn't true; she does care, she just doesn't know how or when to show it.
Aquilamon: Aquilamon is a true loner; he doesn't feel any need to interact with others and becomes annoyed when people interrupt his train of thought. Since he's constantly thinking about something, he's irritable whenever someone else is talking. If you don't try and talk to him uninvited he's much more pleasant to be around, but in this situation he's merely indifferent to your presence, not making an effort to be nice. He has a low opinion of people who feel the need to fill silence with words, and isn't afraid to voice that opinion. For that matter, he'll complain about everything that annoys him.
Aquilamon has taken forms capable of flight since he was a Baby 2, and he's spent as little time as possible on the ground over his life. Flying and seeing new vistas is his passion, and he's traveled much of the world. His greatest fear is being confined, and he's never settled in one place for longer than he needs to. Having to interact with Iskandar and his army annoys him, but he understands his duty as a partner Digimon and will do the bare minimum that's required of him. He won't, however, take initiative beyond his orders, and unfortunately for those around him he'll make very clear the imposition that's being placed on him by having to fulfill the duties of a partner.
Labramon: Labramon is kind and compassionate to everyone she meets, brave, and is extremely loyal to those she cares about. She is, unfortunately, painfully shy and almost never speaks, even to people she knows very well. Even mentioning the possibility of her being the center of attention for more than a handful of people is enough to send her to hide out of sight. She genuinely wants to be around people and have conversations with them, just not in large groups. She hates conflict and tries to be a peacemaker whenever she can, but she often has to fight against her shyness to do so. Labramon works at a florist shop and is passionate about gardening, loving to be around growing things in general. She knows how to grow nearly every decorative or edible plant in the Digital World, but is constantly stymied by not having enough space to grow everything she wants to.
Her shyness comes from a deep fear of embarrassing herself combined with her taking criticism very hard. She used to have a stuttering problem, and although few people teased her for it, the few that did were enough to make her not want to speak. She managed to push through that time and now can speak to a small number of people at once and no longer stutters, but her fear of embarrassment remains.
Character abilities: When Iskandar arrives in the Digital World, it will be in a human body, fulfilling the wish that he would have made on the Holy Grail. As a result he no longer has the full power that he possessed as a Heroic Spirit, although he does retain a few abilities. Physically Iskandar is now a normal human with above-average strength and endurance, but low agility, though he would still read to magical scans as being a summoned being. He's skilled at fighting with the weapons of his time, primarily the short sword and the lance. He can materialize and dematerialize the armor, clothes, and (high-quality but non-magical) bronze sword he arrived with, exchanging them with whatever clothes he's wearing at the time. Both sets of clothes are clean and undamaged when they arrive. He has divine blood, being a descendant of both Heracles and Achilles, as well as rumored to have Zeus as his true father. This normally has no effect, but it does result in magical effects working on him as they would on a deity regardless of his wishes, if they have a specific effect on the divine (for example, he could wield a weapon that could only be touched by a god, but he would also be affected by a curse that only works on deities). He also retains his immunity to minor magical effects, but this ability is so weak it's almost not worth mentioning; it only negates the weakest and most casually cast of magic, and once the caster puts some effort into casting a spell on him, it will get through. Since no competent spellcaster would use such weak spells in battle or not put any effort into casting, this ability is unlikely to come up, but is included here for completeness sake. He's able to sense powerful magic nearby, but can gain no information beyond it's location and its relative strength. He can no longer summon Gordius Wheel, and therefore can't use Via Expugnatio. His ultimate ability, "Ionioi Hetairoi: Army of the King", is inaccessable as long as he can't access the Throne of Heroes, and his lack of magical ability prevents him from calling forth the Reality Marble without that access. In theory, gathering a group of at least 2000 people who are all loyal to him beyond death, have had unforgettable experiences next to him, and share his dreams, or else being assisted by one or more extremely powerful spellcasters, would allow him to activate the Reality Marble, but there would be no guarantee of success or of what form it would take, as his original ability to summon it is something approaching a miracle to begin with. In short, all functions of Ionioi Hetairoi are locked out without extremely specific requirements and mod approval, and it is likely that it will remain inaccessible indefinitely.
Iskandar app 6/6
Date: 2012-04-15 06:38 am (UTC)Sample RP:
"Damn that was good!" Shoutmon said, dramatically flopping onto his back as the group sat around their campfire. Leomon scowled at the sudden noise but said nothing.
"Indeed, that was a fine feast!" Iskandar agreed loudly. "Leomon! Labramon! You two are indeed excellent chefs!"
Labramon looked like she was trying to flatten herself into the ground when the others glanced over at her.
"Thank you."
Leomon crossed his arms over his chest.
"I ain't a chef. And I'd hardly call it a feast."
"Nevertheless it was delicious."
"It was too salty," Aquilamon spoke up from his perch on a fallen tree.
"You didn't help or say what you wanted in it. You don't get to complain."
"I agreed to eat with you people. I've done more than e-"
"Hey, Iskandar!" Shoutmon interrupted, everyone's attention swinging back to him as he sat back up. "Didn't you say you had a surprise for us?"
"Ah, yes, I do indeed." Iskandar tapped buttons on his D-Comm and realized a box, which he held up to the others with a huge grin.
"Ta da!"
The box was marked "S'mores Kit".
"I saw this in the city's market and decided we should try it!"
Ignoring Aquilamon's muttered "That's it?" and the bewildered looks of the others he opened the box and pulled out the instructions. Elephamon broke the silence.
"It would have been more economical to purchase the ingredients separately. It would also be possible to make more, as the separate ingredients are sold in larger packages."
Iskandar looked up at her. "Is that so?" He looked back down at the instructions with a frown. "This seemed so convenient, having everything in one package with instructions for preparing them."
"I've never had them before but they look good!"
"Indeed. It seems that we will need sticks to hold these white thingies over the fire."
"I'll find some!"
Shoutmon charged off towards the trees to begin his search and Elephamon spoke up again.
"The white objects within the kit are called-"
"Found some!"
"Are called 'marshmallows'. In many of the worlds that human Tamers originate in, marshmallows were developed from a confection made from the marshmallow plant, hence the name."
"Oh yes, I remember those." Iskandar smiled. "I tried them after I liberated Egypt. They were quite delicious." He held the bag up and frowned at the contents in confusion. "Although they looked nothing like these. It would seem that the recipe has changed significantly since the-"
"These should be good!" Shoutmon came charging back with a bundle of sticks in his arms. "What next?"
Leomon reached over and grabbed a stick.
"Obviously, make a point on it so you can get the marshmallow on and off easier."
He drew his sword and, with a few quick cuts, the stick gave the stick a rough point. He repeated the process for the remainder and sheathed his sword. Shoutmon flashed him a glare.
"Now what, oh great warrior?"
"It says that now we roast the marshmallows over the fire until they are golden-brown," Iskandar said before Leomon could retort. "Labramon, would you roast Aquilamon's as well?"
"Okay."
Roasting marshmallows over the fire, Iskandar was grinning like a little kid. Labramon had a much smaller smile, and Leomon, Elephamon, and Aquilamon retained a neutral expression. Shoutmon hummed one of the new songs his band was working on, until his marshmallow caught fire and he frantically blew on it to put it out.
"Hm. The instructions do say that some people may enjoy their marshmallows burnt."
"That wasn't supposed to happen..."
"So what next?"
"It seems you place a piece of chocolate on half of the cracker, then put the marshmallow and the other half of the cracker on top."
Everyone did so and ate.
"Hm. Not ba-"
"Wow this is good!"
"I agree."
"Haha! We should have this again! What say you all?"
"Hell yeah!"
Leomon, Elephamon, and Labramon all nodded their assent, while Aquilamon gave a noncommittal "Hn." Iskandar looked over at him.
"What do you think, Aquilamon?"
"Hn. Do what you want. I'm leaving."
He flapped his wings and flew off, making the campfire dance wildly in the process.
"That guy..."
As the others focused their attention on Aquilamon's departure, Shoutmon set another marshmallow on fire.
"Dammit not again!"
Sample D-Comm Network Post: [Video]
[The camera comes on to show an enormous man standing with his red cloak around his body, the Net Ocean stretching out in the background and nothing other than the waves and the horizon to focus on besides him. He looks even taller than he is since whoever is holding the camera is so much shorter than him and is pointing the camera up slightly to get his face in the shot along with the rest of his body. The man spreads his arms, his cloak billowing for an instant before it comes to rest behind his shoulders, and speaks in a voice that doesn't need a microphone to be heard clearly over the roar of the waves.]
Everyone! Cease what you are doing and listen to the words of the king!
[He lowers his arms and his cloak slips forward to cover them again.]
I am Iskandar, King of Conquerors! Those who come from my world may know me better as Alexander the Great. In this world I am of the Xros Tamer class. I wish to make a proposition. [He looks directly at you. Yes, you watching this video, whoever and wherever you are, he's looking at you specifically. He spreads his arms in the air again and clenches his fists.] What do you say to joining my army? Together, we shall share the joy of conquering this world, trampling the Demon Kings and all who oppose us beneath our feet! [A huge grin.] What say you?
