CHARACTER APPLICATION
Feb. 5th, 2012 12:53 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
If you want to apply for a character at Digital Dive, simply take one of the forms below and reply to this post.
Applications will now be judged on a rotation cycle. Applications can be submitted throughout the entire month, but they will only be judged, rejected, or sent back for revision in the last two weeks of any calendar month.
New to Digital Dive, you can now use the Dive Tests Network to act in place of the RP Sample or D-Comm Network Post. You can only use it for one, however! Further details for how this works can be found here.
Before you apply, there are a few points we'd like to make known:
If you wish to app a character from a movie, video game, or other work released in individual (read, not regular), we'd like to ask that you wait for 30 days out of consideration for spoilers.
Most applications are judged on a two strikes your out policy, with applicants being given one chance to correct aspects of an app that the moderators feel are lacking or in error. However, if the majority of the application has numerous faults, the moderators reserve the right to reject an app wholesale. In the case of a rejected application, you must wait a full month before applying or reserving for them again, and in that time, the character you have applied for is still considered up for grabs.
Because all situations and canons are different, the moderators reserve the rights to question an application's merit and communicate with the applicant about the matter. This can range from how long the canon has been running, the point in which the character is being applied for, concerns of potential canon-mates, and whatever other necessary situations may arise.
We've provided explanations for each section, so please read over them before you apply!
Name and personal journal: List the name you'd like to be called along with your personal journal, if you have one.
Contact: List the methods by which you can be contacted here, including email, instant messagers, or anything else. We must have some means of getting hold of you outside Dreamwidth itself.
Player's Age: Please list your personal age. We ask presently that players be over the age of 16.
Character/Canon: List the character's name and the canon they originate from. If your character is an original creation, regardless of origin, please indicate this.
Character Type: Is your character a main character, a secondary character, a background character, or an OC?
Tamer Class: Please specify whether you are applying for a Soul Tamer, Matrix Tamer, Spirit Tamer, Xros Tamer, or a Digimon on its own. If you are uncertain of which to select, refer to the respective write-ups on Tamer classes.
Furthermore, if you are applying for a Spirit OR Xros Tamer, we would like you to explain why you believe it would fit your character.
Understand that we can and will, if necessary, deny or ask you change your Tamer Class if it is deemed ill-fitting of the character. This does not count as a strike towards rejection, however, except under circumstances when we determine the Class to be ill-fitting and the applicant doesn't comply.
If you don't understand the Class System well and are uncertain of what to pick, you can either ask a moderator, or simply choose "Soul Tamer" as the default option as it is the easiest to manage. You can always change you Class later!
Character appearance: Post an image of your character's appearance, or post a description if you don't have one.
Character age: List your character's age.
Digimon partner(s)/Spirit/Xros Army: If you are applying for a Soul or Matrix Tamer, please list the digimon you have selected for your partner. This digimon must be at the Child level or lower. You need not determine the rest of its evolution line at this time, and even if you do, you may change it at any time provided you haven't already depicted it as evolving into something else. If your Digimon is a fan creation, please indicate this.
If you are applying for a Spirit Tamer, simply state whether you have chosen the Spirit of Fire, Light, Wind, Ice, Thunder, Steel, Water, Wood, Earth, Darkness, or Corrupted Darkness.
If you are applying for a Xros Tamer, due to the fact that these require more information, we require you to list your army's main partner, their super evolution, and the remaining members of their army.
If you are applying for a character who is a Digimon, feel free to leave this blank. However, if said Digimon is an original creation, please indicate this. We are also not accepting applications for Digimon characters who are the Ultimate/Mega level that do not originate from an existing canon - simply put, you would be allowed to apply for BlackWarGreymon from the Digimon Adventure 02 anime, but not an original character who is a BlackWarGreymon.
In general, if you have trouble coming up with a Digimon Partner, you can feel free to ask the community over AIM, the moderators, or refer to sites such as the Digital Monster Almanac or Wikimon.
Xros Ups: If you are applying for a Xros Tamer, we need to know the Xros Ups your Tamer will be able to form from your Primary Partner, what they're called, and what they can do, including attacks and any other special abilities. Note, that this section is also important for determining you have a grasp of the Digi-Xros concept, so this is where you will show that knowledge. This section is not on the app for non-Xros Tamers.
Character history: Describe your character's history. If you're going to go into great, extensive detail, you won't be denied, but note that we do not need a novel written. Quality comes before quantity, and we simply want to know you understand and grasp the canon you are apping from, as well as give us context so we can better understand the following sections. So, please write it out in a concise, but informative manner.
Note however, that for original characters we will hold this section up to much higher standards. An original character can be rejected based on factors ranging from background quality or just seeming to be a poorly conceived character.
Character personality: Describe your character's personality in an informative, but concise, manner. This is one of the most important aspects of the application, to really show you understand the character and where they might be coming from. The raised standards for original characters also applies here.
Digimon partner personality: Describe your Digimon's personality in an informative, but concise manner. Your Digimon are characters too, and just as important as their Tamer. If you are applying for a Xros Tamer or a Tamer with multiple partners, you must list personality for ALL Digimon. Each one will be held up to the same standards as a single partner. If you are apping a Spirit Tamer, you can skip or remove this section.
Character abilities: Describe your character's abilities. Keep in mind that all offensive powers must be scaled down to the Adult level. Most powers that rely on external sources outside the Digital World generally won't function, though there can be the occasional exception depending on how it's described. Keep in mind this is also an important part of determining whether or not the Tamer Class you have selected for your character is right for them.
Please focus on the character's primary, distinct abilities. If the character has a multitude of attacks or spells, free to link to a wiki or other listing that covers said arsenal of powers, but this cannot substitute for the entire ability write-up.
If your character's abilities exceed that which is deemed fair towards the role play in general, you may be asked to tone them down.
On another note, Dive does consider allowing characters to arrive with piloted mecha. This is subject to certain scrutiny, of course, and is judged in comparison to the character's personal abilities outside of the suit and how much their character revolves around the use of said machine.
Sample RP: Please give us a third person role-play sample, depicting your character and their partner(s) interacting. Both sample sections are very important to show your character's voice, and your ability to write your character from a prose perspective, as this will make up a large potential chunk of your role playing in the Logs community.
Sample D-Comm Network Post: Please give us a role play sample from the perspective of posting from the D-Comm Network. It is, effectively, like posting in an online journal or social networking site. Again, we are trying to get a feel for your character's voice.
This is the app for Soul, Spirit, and Matrix Tamers, as well as standalone digimon characters.
This is the app for Xros Tamers:
Banned Digimon partners:
Keep in mind that some digimon are not allowed as digimon partners or components in an evolution line. These digimon are as follows:
Lucemon (all forms)
Arkadimon (all forms)
Apocalymon
Death-X-mon
Ogudamon
Omegamon
Susanoomon
Chaosmon
UltimateChaosmon
Millenniummon
Moon=Millenniumon
ZeedMillenniumon
Gizmon (all forms)
DarknessBagramon
Quartzmon
In addition, with a few notable exceptions, most "Mode Changes" are not acceptable at this time, and you must select the basic version of those Ultimates. The exceptions are Imperialdramon Dragon Mode and Fighter Mode, both of which can be selected as indvidual Digimon, and Duftmon Leopard Mode, which is a component of Duftmon's abilities.

Player's Age: 27
Character/Series: Gai Ikai, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
Character Type: Main
Tamer Class: Soul
Character appearance: Normal, Gokai Silver
Character age: Late-teens, let's say 18 years old
Digimon partner: Damemon > GinKakkumon > Volcamon > VictoryGreymon
Character history: Before becoming the warrior that was known as Gokai Silver, Gai was a boy who found himself moving from place to place often, never remaining in one place long enough to make friends for very long. He did his best to make what friends he could, while also becoming enamored with the various Super Sentai warriors that appeared to defend the earth. His love of them became something life defining, shaping his life's direction for years to come. More than anything, he wanted to be like the Super Sentai.
He got his chance when saving a young girl from being hit by a truck, all at the cost of his own safety. While in a coma, Gai was approached by the spirits of three departed Super Sentai Warriors: AbaKiller, Dragon Ranger, and Time Fire. Impressed by his sacrifice, they gave him the Gokai Cellular and Gokai Silver Ranger key, bestowing upon him the Grand Powers of their respective teams. Gai awoke from his coma, and seeing that his transformed state resembled them, sought out the new Super Sentai warriors, the pirates known as the Gokaiger. They fought against the Zangyack, an alien army that was attempting to conquer Earth after being defeated several years prior by the collected Super Sentai warriors.
Upon meeting the Gokaiger, he attempted to impress them, but even defeating the most recent Zangyack Action Commander was not enough to sell them on his worthwhile-ness to the group. Eventually, the Gokaigers' leader, Captain Marvelous, confiscated his transformation devices until he could prove he could contribute something that Marvelous and his crew didn't already have. He eventually proved himself by going into battle without his powers, and showing that he wanted to save the earth rather than collect the Grand Powers and collect the greatest treasure in the universe, which was the Gokaigers' main goal. Marvelous returned his Ranger Key and Cellular, and allowed Gai to become an apprentice pirate.
Gai immediately began to try and impress and endear himself to the crew, which earned him the ire of the crew's doctor and science officer, Don Dogoier. Feeling inadequate compared to Gai, he felt useless when the other Gokaiger were incapacitated by the newest Action Commander. Eventually, Doc came around, and after witnessing Gai's ability to do so with two Ranger Keys earlier, encouraged Gai to combine all of the “extra ranger keys” into one, creating Gokai Silver's Gold Mode. In the aftermath, Gai and Doc finally became closer friends and teammates.
It was Gai's turn to doubt himself when they encountered the Gingaman team while seeking their respective Grand Power. There, he met the Gingaman's own sixth warrior, Black Knight Hyuuga, who he was forced to protect from the Gokaigers' enemy, Basco, who sought the Grand Powers himself. Gai began to doubt whether or not the power of Gokai Silver would better be used by someone like Hyuuga, but in the end, it was revealed to all be a test by Hyuuga to prove he was worthy and that he had the resolve to continue being Gokai Silver himself. The group successfully acquired the Gingaman powers, effectively thwarting Basco.
In the adventures that followed, Gai met many more past Sentai warriors and grew closer to his teammates while growing as a warrior and a pirate. One notable encounter was with Ryo of the Dairanger, who he met after losing his Gokai Cellular to an Action Commander. From Ryo he learned a lesson about standing up, even when powerless, and successfully reclaimed both his Cellular and his confidence. Still later, he and the others met Sosuke of the Go-Onger, who led to the crew acquiring a new member: Engine Machalcon, who hailed from the Machine World. Machalcon would later awaken a greater strength in the Gokaigers' mecha, allowing them to realize their own Grand Power and unite Gokai-Oh, Gai's GoJyuJin, and Machalcon himself into the completed Kanzen Gokai-Oh, who was used to defeat the leader of the earth invasion forces, Walz Gil.
The void left by Walz' demise was soon filled by his father, Ackdos, who led to a new set of challenges for the Gokaiger, prompting them to finish acquiring the remaining Super Sentai Grand Powers. Notable instances involved going back in time to protect shrine from being destroyed, which they later found out housed an ally of the Super Sentai Kakuranger team, Ninjaman. While in the past, Gai encountered a young boy named Mirai, who had grown up without a father and was always moving due to his mother's work. Gai saw himself in the boy, and before returning to the present, did what he could to encourage him. Eventually, the Gokaiger found out the reason for their mission in the past, and returned to the shrine to collect the power. They discovered Ninjaman, who they ultimately had to prove themselves to in order to gain the power. Eventually, they succeeded, and in the end, acquired the final unclaimed Grand Power.
This brought their various battles to a climax, with Basco attempting to gain all the Grand Powers at once. Sacrificing his ally, the space monkey Sally, Basco successfully wounded Marvelous and defeated the Gokaiger, taking control of the Galleon. Gai and the others managed to take back the Galleon while powerless, defeating puppets using their own powers in the process, but Basco proved too much for them. However, Marvelous arrived on the scene, and after a difficult battle, managed to defeat Basco once and for all and claiming the five powers he had stolen.
With all the powers collected, they had what they needed to gain the greatest treasure in the universe... which they learned had the power to destroy the Zangyack completely. However, there turned out to be a terrible price, in that doing so would wipe the previous Super Sentai from history. Before they could decide, the Zangyack then made their move, with the commander Insarn effectively being used as a sacrifice to stall for enough time for the greater Zangyack armada to amass around Earth. The Gokaiger were effectively defeated by the Zangyack's power, leaving the Galleon damaged and the group scattered. While making his way back, Gai encountered Goushi of the Zyuranger team, who told him that the Super Sentai would gladly sacrifice themselves to save the Earth. However... when the time came, Gai decided to take a third option.
And that was to destroy the Greatest Treasure, rather than make such a terrible choice. Ultimately, through an intense battle, the Gokaiger managed to prevail, destroying the armada and facing Ackdos Gil himself in a final showdown. In the aftermath, Gai decided to leave Earth with his comrades to seek a new treasure on the Zangyack homeworld, having finally become a full fledged pirate and Super Sentai warrior himself.

Date: 2012-04-30 11:11 pm (UTC)Character personality: The first thing you might notice about Gai is how excitable he is. This is not just something that lies on the surface, as Gai Ikari really is that hyperactive and excitable. He has an incredible zest for life and enthusiasm that knows no bounds. That said, this is both a positive and negative trait, as his excitability can be equally endearing and grating to the people he expresses it towards.
Gai's other prominent trait is his... well, fanboyishness. Gai is a fan through and through, especially (and to the point it can override all others) of Super Sentai. He has a near encyclopedic knowledge of every Super Sentai team, and even made one at one point in his life. When encountering one of his idols, his enthusiasm cannot be contained and he simply must get a chance to interact with them, usually asking for autographs and introducing himself as quickly as possible.
That said, there's more to Gai than simply being a spazz. As said, he has a near encyclopedic knowledge of the Super Sentai, which is indicative of one fact that you might not notice about Gai at first: He's smart. Oh, it's not that he's a genius or anything, but he's MUCH more clever and intelligent than you'd initially assume. He's an excellent cook and has a variety of talents that one wouldn't expect from a stereotypical otaku. And for what it's worth, despite his enthusiasm and overbearingness, he's at his core a caring and true friend, extending that to just about everyone he meets.
Furthermore, Gai, perhaps more than anyone, embodies the Super Sentai spirit. It goes far beyond an obsessive and fanboyish love for them... he firmly believes in the ideas of justice and goodness that the Super Sentai embody. It's more than just an interest and hobby to Gai, it's an ideal; one that he'll go to any lengths to uphold. Though he's become a full fledged pirate by now, this is not something Gai will ever lose sight of; he will always fight to save people and do what's right, he'll just do it in the creative and unconventional way that is the Gokaigers' trademark.
Other personality traits Gai has are his naivete and creativity. Because Gai is so dedicated to the idea of what Super Sentai represents, he can be a bit slow to realize or make pragmatic decisions. His creativity is expressed in his love of Super Sentai, with making his own transformation poses and phrases and his encyclopedia being just a few expressions of this. It's also shown by his ability to combine the powers of multiple Ranger Keys into one, thereby creating his own super mode with just the power of his mind.
For the purposes of this roleplay, digimon is a fictional series where Gai comes from. The respective anime don't exist, but he is familiar with an incarnation of the franchise, and thus, knows a great deal about it already. Not as much as Super Sentai, but... well. The guy is an almighty nerd.
Digimon partner personality: Growing up in the Putrid Ruins can have an effect on an individual's personality. This is no less true of Damemon, who... well, Damemon is a bit of a freak. Like Gai, he's an obsessive fanboy, but lacks Gai's people skills and more socially accepted behavior, which is really, really saying a lot. Damemon is closer to the otaku stereotype than Gai is, right down to the reclusive behavior and lack of social awareness. His obsessions dominate his every thought, to the point he either doesn't realize the fact that he comes off as creepy or delusional to others. He also doesn't take care of himself, and will likely rely on Gai to bring a modicum of sensibility into his life.
That said, deep down, Damemon is a very lonely digimon, and though he masks it well, he has a deep seated self loathing. Growing up in the Putrid Ruins has caused him to consider himself living refuse, to the point he fills the void in his life with playthings and obsession. He'll need someone like Gai to draw him out into the light and realize his own power, and that there's more to life than what lies on the surface... and that Damemon himself has a power waiting to come out.
Character abilities: Using his Gokai Cellular, which Gai activates by placing his Ranger key inside of it and entering a series of specific button commands, Gai can transform into the hero known as Gokai Silver. He is always able to summon his ranger key with the Gokai Buckle, which connects him to the treasure chest that houses the Ranger Keys. The Gokai Cellular also functions as a normal cell phone, and allows Gai to summon the GoJyuDrill, but that's not something that will apply in the Digital World.
As Gokai Silver, Gai has enhanced physical strength and endurance, allowing him to fight on a completely different level than a normal human. In or out of suit, he can utilize the Gokai Spear, a weapon that looks like a trident, and has a surprising amount of fighting skill that comes from his study and enthusiasm for the Super Sentai. The Gokai Spear has two forms available to Gai in the Digital World: Spear Mode and Gun Mode. In Spear Mode, he can insert his Ranger Key to execute the powerful “Gokai Shooting Star” technique, in which he throws said weapon like a javelin. In Gun Mode, it serves as, well, a gun, and when using a Ranger Key can fire off a Final Wave called the “Gokai Supernova”, which can in turn be used in conjunction with his teammates' attacks.
The Ranger Key can also be used to empower the Gokai Galleon Buster, a weapon resembling the Gokaigers' ship. When Gai's Ranger Key is utilized as the lead ranger key, it gives the Gokai Galleon Buster what is known as a “special charge”, allowing it to execute its own Final Wave, the Rising Strike.
One last note, I would like to have Gai be able to empower the ability of Damemon's evolved form, known as GinKakkumon Promote, which is activated when someone enters the “cockpit” in said digimon's chest, enhancing the digimon's electrical powers. This would be a nod both to the digimon's profile abilities (which requires the presence of GinKakkumon's opposite number, KinKakkumon) and the fact that as a Super Sentai warrior, Gai is a mecha pilot.
Sample RP: The last thing Gai remembered was being on the Gokai Galleon. Then came the sensation of falling through the air, followed by hitting water. Sputtering, he tried to pull himself out, feeling the rancid taste of foul liquid on his lips and tongue.
To his surprise, he found himself being pulled out of the water by a smaller hand, which helped him out of the water with surprising strength. By the time he was on semi-dry land and with his wits about him again, he was staring at the sight of... well, it looked like a robot fashioned in the shape of a pile of poo.
Needless to say, Gai found himself screaming. Which in turn caused the other creature to scream, and for them to back away from each other, both of them pressing up against the opposite walls of a set of ruins, the latter letting out a cloud of noxious gas in the process.
“What... who are you supposed to be?!” they both cried in unison.
”I asked you first!”
”Stop doing that!”
”Man, you reek!”
”It's not my fault!”
“...”
Both let out a sigh, realizing that this was getting them nowhere. “I'm Gai,” he human said. “Ikari Gai. And you...?”
“I'm Damemon,” the robotic creature said quietly.
Damemon. Gai's eyes widened in surprise. That name meant something to him. It wasn't by any means as important to him as the Super Sentai were, but he'd followed the digimon franchise a fair bit in his youth. It was enough for him to recognize its naming conventions, and just what had happened to him.
His expression turned into a grin.
“That. Is. AMAZING!”
Sample D-Comm Network Post: [AUDIO]
Attention, Digital World! The one in the silver spotlight has arrived! Ikari Gai, Goooookai Silver!
I never thought this would happen to me! Chosen to both a part of the Super Sentai and a Digimon Tamer! I don't recognize some of the creatures or people here, but I know enough to know what's going on here! We need to save the world, right? That's no problem!
I'm really kind of amazed though. Back where I come from, this was just a bunch of stuff for kids. I'm a bit surprised to find out it was all real!
So what do I do first? We can go back and forth between worlds, right? I mean, I still have things to do as a pirate, but I can definitely split my time between both...
