CHARACTER APPLICATION
Feb. 5th, 2012 12:53 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
If you want to apply for a character at Digital Dive, simply take one of the forms below and reply to this post.
Applications will now be judged on a rotation cycle. Applications can be submitted throughout the entire month, but they will only be judged, rejected, or sent back for revision in the last two weeks of any calendar month.
New to Digital Dive, you can now use the Dive Tests Network to act in place of the RP Sample or D-Comm Network Post. You can only use it for one, however! Further details for how this works can be found here.
Before you apply, there are a few points we'd like to make known:
If you wish to app a character from a movie, video game, or other work released in individual (read, not regular), we'd like to ask that you wait for 30 days out of consideration for spoilers.
Most applications are judged on a two strikes your out policy, with applicants being given one chance to correct aspects of an app that the moderators feel are lacking or in error. However, if the majority of the application has numerous faults, the moderators reserve the right to reject an app wholesale. In the case of a rejected application, you must wait a full month before applying or reserving for them again, and in that time, the character you have applied for is still considered up for grabs.
Because all situations and canons are different, the moderators reserve the rights to question an application's merit and communicate with the applicant about the matter. This can range from how long the canon has been running, the point in which the character is being applied for, concerns of potential canon-mates, and whatever other necessary situations may arise.
We've provided explanations for each section, so please read over them before you apply!
Name and personal journal: List the name you'd like to be called along with your personal journal, if you have one.
Contact: List the methods by which you can be contacted here, including email, instant messagers, or anything else. We must have some means of getting hold of you outside Dreamwidth itself.
Player's Age: Please list your personal age. We ask presently that players be over the age of 16.
Character/Canon: List the character's name and the canon they originate from. If your character is an original creation, regardless of origin, please indicate this.
Character Type: Is your character a main character, a secondary character, a background character, or an OC?
Tamer Class: Please specify whether you are applying for a Soul Tamer, Matrix Tamer, Spirit Tamer, Xros Tamer, or a Digimon on its own. If you are uncertain of which to select, refer to the respective write-ups on Tamer classes.
Furthermore, if you are applying for a Spirit OR Xros Tamer, we would like you to explain why you believe it would fit your character.
Understand that we can and will, if necessary, deny or ask you change your Tamer Class if it is deemed ill-fitting of the character. This does not count as a strike towards rejection, however, except under circumstances when we determine the Class to be ill-fitting and the applicant doesn't comply.
If you don't understand the Class System well and are uncertain of what to pick, you can either ask a moderator, or simply choose "Soul Tamer" as the default option as it is the easiest to manage. You can always change you Class later!
Character appearance: Post an image of your character's appearance, or post a description if you don't have one.
Character age: List your character's age.
Digimon partner(s)/Spirit/Xros Army: If you are applying for a Soul or Matrix Tamer, please list the digimon you have selected for your partner. This digimon must be at the Child level or lower. You need not determine the rest of its evolution line at this time, and even if you do, you may change it at any time provided you haven't already depicted it as evolving into something else. If your Digimon is a fan creation, please indicate this.
If you are applying for a Spirit Tamer, simply state whether you have chosen the Spirit of Fire, Light, Wind, Ice, Thunder, Steel, Water, Wood, Earth, Darkness, or Corrupted Darkness.
If you are applying for a Xros Tamer, due to the fact that these require more information, we require you to list your army's main partner, their super evolution, and the remaining members of their army.
If you are applying for a character who is a Digimon, feel free to leave this blank. However, if said Digimon is an original creation, please indicate this. We are also not accepting applications for Digimon characters who are the Ultimate/Mega level that do not originate from an existing canon - simply put, you would be allowed to apply for BlackWarGreymon from the Digimon Adventure 02 anime, but not an original character who is a BlackWarGreymon.
In general, if you have trouble coming up with a Digimon Partner, you can feel free to ask the community over AIM, the moderators, or refer to sites such as the Digital Monster Almanac or Wikimon.
Xros Ups: If you are applying for a Xros Tamer, we need to know the Xros Ups your Tamer will be able to form from your Primary Partner, what they're called, and what they can do, including attacks and any other special abilities. Note, that this section is also important for determining you have a grasp of the Digi-Xros concept, so this is where you will show that knowledge. This section is not on the app for non-Xros Tamers.
Character history: Describe your character's history. If you're going to go into great, extensive detail, you won't be denied, but note that we do not need a novel written. Quality comes before quantity, and we simply want to know you understand and grasp the canon you are apping from, as well as give us context so we can better understand the following sections. So, please write it out in a concise, but informative manner.
Note however, that for original characters we will hold this section up to much higher standards. An original character can be rejected based on factors ranging from background quality or just seeming to be a poorly conceived character.
Character personality: Describe your character's personality in an informative, but concise, manner. This is one of the most important aspects of the application, to really show you understand the character and where they might be coming from. The raised standards for original characters also applies here.
Digimon partner personality: Describe your Digimon's personality in an informative, but concise manner. Your Digimon are characters too, and just as important as their Tamer. If you are applying for a Xros Tamer or a Tamer with multiple partners, you must list personality for ALL Digimon. Each one will be held up to the same standards as a single partner. If you are apping a Spirit Tamer, you can skip or remove this section.
Character abilities: Describe your character's abilities. Keep in mind that all offensive powers must be scaled down to the Adult level. Most powers that rely on external sources outside the Digital World generally won't function, though there can be the occasional exception depending on how it's described. Keep in mind this is also an important part of determining whether or not the Tamer Class you have selected for your character is right for them.
Please focus on the character's primary, distinct abilities. If the character has a multitude of attacks or spells, free to link to a wiki or other listing that covers said arsenal of powers, but this cannot substitute for the entire ability write-up.
If your character's abilities exceed that which is deemed fair towards the role play in general, you may be asked to tone them down.
On another note, Dive does consider allowing characters to arrive with piloted mecha. This is subject to certain scrutiny, of course, and is judged in comparison to the character's personal abilities outside of the suit and how much their character revolves around the use of said machine.
Sample RP: Please give us a third person role-play sample, depicting your character and their partner(s) interacting. Both sample sections are very important to show your character's voice, and your ability to write your character from a prose perspective, as this will make up a large potential chunk of your role playing in the Logs community.
Sample D-Comm Network Post: Please give us a role play sample from the perspective of posting from the D-Comm Network. It is, effectively, like posting in an online journal or social networking site. Again, we are trying to get a feel for your character's voice.
This is the app for Soul, Spirit, and Matrix Tamers, as well as standalone digimon characters.
This is the app for Xros Tamers:
Banned Digimon partners:
Keep in mind that some digimon are not allowed as digimon partners or components in an evolution line. These digimon are as follows:
Lucemon (all forms)
Arkadimon (all forms)
Apocalymon
Death-X-mon
Ogudamon
Omegamon
Susanoomon
Chaosmon
UltimateChaosmon
Millenniummon
Moon=Millenniumon
ZeedMillenniumon
Gizmon (all forms)
DarknessBagramon
Quartzmon
In addition, with a few notable exceptions, most "Mode Changes" are not acceptable at this time, and you must select the basic version of those Ultimates. The exceptions are Imperialdramon Dragon Mode and Fighter Mode, both of which can be selected as indvidual Digimon, and Duftmon Leopard Mode, which is a component of Duftmon's abilities.

[not as mindblowing as ken's, but what *is*?]2
Date: 2012-02-24 07:27 am (UTC)You'd expect the prince of an evil space empire to not be very nice: you'd be right and then some. Walz is sadistic, cruel, vicious, and horribly ill-tempered, as he will fly into a temper tantrum if anything goes wrong. He's also childish and extremely spoiled, having been given anything he wants as the heir to his father's throne. Many of his plans happen on a whim, often banking their success on his own outrageous pride and personal expectations as the crown prince.
Yet despite his apparent incompetence and stupidity, he is actually aware of others' opinions of him, feeling extremely alone and paranoid: even of his own father, who he overheard voicing doubt of his abilities. Out of the entire crew of the Gigant Horse, it's Barizorg--the utterly emotionless cyborg created out of the former Zangyack commander Sid Balmick--that he considers to be the only one he trusts. In fact, the only person he actually shows genuine, heartfelt emotion for is Barizorg, as when he was killed by Sid's former junior Joe Gibken, he cried for him and swore to utterly destroy the Gokaiger in revenge.
He is also frighteningly competent when he puts his mind to it: some of his most heinous plans came from moments where he had seen a moment of opportunity and seized it: such as making an Action Commander into an unwitting suicide bomber or luring the Gokaiger into a trap from which he decisively defeated them. If he puts aside his spoiled, prideful ways, he could've become an emperor worthy of his father's legacy.
Digimon partner personality:
His V-mon used to be a Gormin, in particular one of the Gormins tasked with navigating the prince's flagship, the Gigant Horse. Whenever the Gokaiger defeat the latest Action Commander sent to attack Earth, Walz would pitch a grand fit and beat up whatever Gormins just happened to be in his vicinity: which were usually the navigator Gormins. But unlike most others who would avoid being attacked by the furious prince, it seemed like this Gormin would constantly get /into/ Walz's line of sight when this happened. Therefore, there's rumors that he does this on purpose; why this is, no one is certain...but as with all rumors, there are certain things that cause one's imagination to run to strange places...
Gormins are created with the expressed purpose of absolute obedience: they follow the commands of the Sugormin and/or Action Commanders without question, and have extremely limited sentience. This carries over to his Digimon form, and is still the one that Walz abuses if he doesn't get his way. But he seems content with this, if you could say he still has sentience. But it seems he has enough to say that his name is "Steve".
((he's inspired by a Vehicon drone from Transformers Prime that /co/ has lovingly dubbed "Steve", as they claim it's the same drone every time one gets beaten up by Starscream, explained by a masochistic crush on him. If the same navigator Gormin gets beaten up by Walz every time he pitches a fit, well...))
Character abilities:
Walz has no physical prowess or superhuman capabilities; in fact he may as well be an ordinary human if not for the fact he's still alien. Despite often failing at whatever sort of tasks he puts upon himself or others, if he puts his mind to it, his supposedly harmless haughtiness can become the downfall of whoever underestimates him. He is much smarter than others give him credit for, but his pride and spoiled attitude are giant roadblocks to him being truly successful.
Special Request:
My intent is to pull him right after the Great Walz was destroyed. Which means he's...a bit somewhat dead. Granted this can be fixed if the right (or right in *theory*) person finds him and forces him back to life with some sort of technology sciency magic thing. With permission, I would like to do this, since I am aware death is permanent in the Digital World, but I know that some people have managed to skirt this with case-by-case mod approval. (...myself included. >_>)
Sample RP:
Junk City had many alleyways, damp and dark and dismal. All sorts of things lurked in them, and right now, a shivering V-mon sat in one, hunched next to a prone, dingy white form.
Cold was something Gormins like him weren't used to. Not that Gormins were capable of expanded thought or feeling in the first place. Even in this new body, his brain was still very much a Gormin's, and still very much bound to his emperor and empire. And behind him, the emperor's beloved son wasn't moving, still as death and he couldn't tell if he was breathing at all.
That's all he was aware of, and as far as the primitive, unquestioning mind of a Gormin was in this Digimon's body, that's all that mattered. Not where they were (he could try to call for help, but for some reason he couldn't link with other Gormins) not why they were here (information on how to get back would be helpful, of course)...just the fact something was wrong with his Excellency and they needed help.
For the first time in a good long while, his attention was brought back to the odd device that was in the prince's hand. He didn't know what this device was, why it had the Zangyack Imperial Crest on the back, or why they had it in the first place. It looked enough like a phone, so wouldn't it function like one? The pirates used phones, and so did the empire when they needed to. But he was afraid to touch it, thinking he might hurt the prince more if he moved him at all.
But what would be gained if he didn't at least try to call for help? Wouldn't he be punished by someone other than his Excellency, possibly destroyed, if he didn't try?
Sample D-Comm Network Post: ((This sample doesn't have anything to do with the above story; I assume we want a usual "this is what the voice is" sample))
Disgusting!! You expect me to *walk* in a place like this!? Need I remind you who I am, you stupid...whatever you are!?
You don't, sir.
Well if you didn't, you wouldn't have let me wander around in this pile of disease! Now you tell me how this thing works and how I can contact my ship! If I have to spend another moment here I'll be ill!
((italics not used in a full, separate sentence indicates Steve talking.))
Re: [not as mindblowing as ken's, but what *is*?]2
Date: 2012-02-29 05:59 pm (UTC)Furthermore, we'd like a sample rp where Walz is conscious and he and his partner are interacting.
EDIT - sorry, clarifying what kind of sample we require.
